Coldplay Accused Of 'Copying Viva La Vida Melody'

An American indie band have accused Coldplay of copying the melody from one of their songs and using it on the band's new album.

Creaky Boards claim that 'Viva La Vida', the title track from Coldplay's number one album, takes its melody from a track that's ironically entitled 'The Songs I didn't Write'.

In a video message on YouTube, Andrew Hoepfner, the bands songwriter, says that Martin even saw the band when they performed last year.

"We were flattered when we thought we saw Chris Martin in the crowd that night. He seemed pretty into it. Maybe too into it,” he writes.

'Viva La Vida' went straight in at number one yesterday (June 15th), selling 302,000 copies in just three days.

Coldplay, who will perform in London later today (June 16th), have yet to respond to the claims.

What do you think about the accusations? Watch the video below and then post a comment.

Kooks: 'We'll Conquer America -- Unlike the Arctic Monkeys'

Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard has vowed his band will conquer America unlike their chart rivals Arctic Monkeys.

Luke said the band's second album Konk was doing really well stateside, whereas the Arctics' popularity has plummeted.

The band, whose debut album Inside In/Inside Out has sold more than a million copies and attained triple platinum status, have just finished touring America and things are looking so good that Luke is splashing out on a New York pad.

He revealed, "It's really going great over there. Radio is really picking up on the album.

"Arctic Monkeys have just died over there. They were huge for their first album but it hasnt happened with the second one."

Josh Zetumer in talks for 'Dune'

Would pen adaptation of the award-winning 1965 novel

We have wormsign.

Josh Zetumer is in negotiations to pen the latest incarnation of "Dune," Frank Herbert's sprawling sci-fi epic, for Paramount Pictures.

The award-winning 1965 novel -- the first in a series of six books about a futuristic struggle for control of a precious spice called Melange on the desert planet Arrakis -- was first adapted by David Lynch into a financially and critically disastrous 1984 film (though Herbert apparently liked it). It also was turned into a more successful Sci Fi Channel miniseries in 2000.

Kevin Misher is producing the new version through his Paramount-based Misher Films. Herbert's son Brian and Kevin J. Anderson, who have co-written several additional "Dune" novels, will co-produce. Peter Berg is attached to direct.

New Amsterdam Entertainment's Richard Rubenstein and is also producing with Sarah Aubrey of Berg's Film 44 shingle. John Harrison and Mike Messina will executive produce.

The "Dune" property, one of the best-selling science fiction series of all time, has spawned an enormous and devoted fan base and could provide a lucrative new franchise for Paramount. The studio is running hot off its blockbuster launch of "Iron Man" and its resurrection of the "Indiana Jones" juggernaut.

No one involved would comment on Zetumer's take on the "Dune" saga. The writer, repped by UTA and Management 360, also has "Villain" at 2929 Prods. and "The Infiltrator" set up at Warner Bros. He most recently did production work on the next Bond film, "Quantum of Solace."

PORTISHEAD have said it was "amazing" to discover that that RADIOHEAD have been covering the band's new single The Rip.

Speaking to BBC 6 Music, PORTISHEAD'S Adrian Utley said he knew nothing of the issue until bass player Colin Greenwood emailed him.

"Colin from the band emailed me to say they had been playing it and that they'd put it up on their site of them playing it in the dressing room - Thom and Jonny,” he said.

"Thom sounds beautiful singing it, it was amazing, such a buzz."

RADIOHEAD have incorporated the song into their live set and also have an acoustic version on their website, reports Festivalwise

On being asked about the band's touring plans for the rest of the year, Utley said: "I don't think we are going to be doing any more gigs this year no, but we'll possibly do some next year."

PORTISHEAD'S Geoff Barrow recently told Xfm that the band are ready to start work on their next album.

Widely sensed as one of the prototypical bubblegum artists of the late '60s, Tommy Roe contract some pretty decent bikers along the room, specially early in his life history -- many displaying some pretty salient Buddy Holly roots. In fact, Roe's initial down smash, 1962's chart-topping "Sheila," was quite remindful of Holly's "Peggy Sue," utilizing a very similar throbbing drumfish beat and Roe's hiccuping vocal. The isaac M. Singer had antecedently cut the sung dynasty for the littler Judd label before remake it in superior variant for ABC-Paramount. The infectious "Everybody" -- some other hot item the next year -- was waxed in Muscle Shoals at Rick Hall's Fame studios, unremarkably an R&B-oriented deftness (it's non wide known that Roe wrote songs for the Tams, a raw-edged mortal chemical group from his Atlanta hometown).

Once Roe veered off on his squeaky-clean bubblegum tan, he stuck with it for the rest of the decennary. His lighthearted "Scented Pea" and "Hurrah for Hazel" burned-over up the charts in 1966, and he was still at it trey years later when he waxed his biggest hit, "Empty-headed," and "Pack Up Jelly Tight."
